Nuclear power technology has become increasingly important in people’s lives. But few people are knowledgeable about the industry. At the 20th Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference and Nuclear Industry China 2016 in Beijing, this is one of the key topics.

It is powerful, and its related-technology has entered a new phase. In China, the third and fourth generation of nuclear power reactors are now in construction. Those still in the blueprint stage are also taking shape. They will be involved in the greater plan.
“China is going to establish a diversified clean energy system. And nuclear energy plays an important role in this sector,” said Li Guangxing, president of Chinese Nuclear Society.
Although debates remain, there is no denying nuclear technology has affected people’s lives in many ways. Experts now say it could also play a role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
“China is on the right path, and understands benefits of nuclear power, understands that it is a good way to limit carbon emissions,” said James Brennan, vice president of Westinghouse.
But it is not just about China. To really get the most out of nuclear, multilateral cooperation is needed. In our daily lives, nuclear technology can also play an important role.
“For example, nuclear medicine, where nuclear scientist is literally saving lives every day,” said Mimi Holland Limbach, president of Pacific Nuclear Council.
Similar cases are found in agriculture and food production. Perhaps that is why helping people understand the benefits of nuclear science and technology is such an important component of these two science conferences in Beijing.
