Every year millions of unwanted dogs and cats in the U.S. are brought to animal shelters, where the hope is that they will be adopted. The reality is that about half of them will be euthanized, because there are simply not enough homes for them. Dealing1 with abandoned, abused and unwanted pets is a public health and safety issue that concerns most local governments in the U.S. But the task would be immensely more difficult if it were not for the support and expertise2 of privately3 funded animal rescue clinics. VOA's George Dwyer reports on how one American animal shelter is working to help control the local pet population. Ruth Reader narrates4.
