Lebron, we wanna quote you about being on the cover of Sports Illustrated(画报) when you were 17. You said recently “we became big-headed jerks1, me in particular”.
You talked about how the adults around “smugly(沾沾自喜) watch the self-destruction like excited spectators2 at a car crash”. What do you think is wrong with the way that we treat high school sports stars in America?
We want to see how good someone could be at such a young age, um… you know they build jobs so much, but at the same time, you know, they are waiting for you to fall. So they could say "well, there goes another one", so…
If you ran the show of sports in America, how would you treat kids under 18?
I don’t know, that’s a great question. You know, I was thinking, if a kid is a Philan (Phila is short for Philadelphia, and Philan is the people who live there...) or kid is a success at young age, I really pray and hope that he has a great supporting cast. We laugh about all those situations because it only made us um… it made us strong, at the same time, and also it was showing to fade to Akron (St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio which is James's high school...), its was on the map.
You've talked a lot about the way Akron shaped you, so when it comes to that decision in 2010 and it comes to where you go, explain what are the factors here, the heart, the loyalty3 factors?
Well my loyalty is to Akron, you know, I m looking forward to this upcoming season. I'm also, I m looking forward to the summer of 2010 to see what may happen but no matter what happens in that summer, you know, I m still here, you know, I gotta… I got a nice big house here, and I’m always coming back to…and um… you know, I love this city and I always give back to this city no matter what my profession if it takes me somewhere else.
How hard this decision do you think it's gonna be?
I don’t know, we will see, we will see once I get it.
All right, before we get to 2010 there is a 2009 season, your new teammate Shaquille O'Neal, he said just last week, he said LeBron is just tired of losing, so explain that feeling you have.
You know, bringing in this Shaq thing, we have his dominance(优势), his presence4, his experience and he can help me play into late June, becasue that is the only reason I train. It doesn’t matter who's on my team, I hope everybody has that same mentality5 in their head, you know, we started knock it over, and we only into June here. If you are not ready to go for that long game, you are in the wrong place.
So you guys got Shaq, Orlando got Vince Carter, Boston has a healthy Kevin Garnett coming back, why are you guys the favorite to come out of this?
Why aren't we?
Do you think you are?
We are one of the best teams in the League, um… there is no favorite, the favorite is the L.A. Lakers. At the league, you know favorite’s coming out of here…coming out of… it goes to Los Angeles right now.
And you said when we are all here at Akron last week that you could play Kobe 82 games a year.
Absolutely…..
you would…..
Just I should be a better competitor I am, no matter what I got, you know, Kobe is one of those ultimate6 competitors, and you know if I could I'll play with him everyday.
Outside the basketball you're doing a couple of projects with President Obama, you are pretty apolitical, before last year what is it about President Obama that affected7 you?
um… I just thought he was ur… very cool. Everytime I watched him you know he just felt like he was always under control, you know, he got me he seems like a great leader so I got involved in. (本文由在线英语听力室整理编辑)
