Malaysia’s prime minister says the asylum1 seeker deal that his government has struck with Australia is mutually beneficial. But the agreement is being slammed from all sides of politics here. Australia will send 800 asylum seekers to Malaysia in exchange for receiving and settling 4,000 refugees. The Opposition2 thinks that this is a lousy deal, while the Greens say the idea is inhumane.

Legendary6 Australian boxer7 Lionel Rose has died at the age of 62. Rose was the first Indigenous8 boxer to win a world title in 1968. He was also named Australian of the Year. Rose won 42 of his 53 fights and recorded two hit songs in the 1970s. He had been ill after suffering a stroke in 2007.
Egypt’s justice minister has promised to come down hard on anyone involved in sectarian violence. Twelve people died and around 200 have been injured during deadly clashes between Christians9 and Muslims in Cairo at the weekend. An emergency cabinet meeting has been called to discuss that violence.
