Hello, I’m Melissa Hamilton.
A British court has ordered police to hand over information
to actor Hugh Grant or former girlfriend Jemima Khan, which could reveal they were also victims of the UK phone hacking1 scandal. Several celebrities2 have been targeted by the now-defunct tabloid3 News of the World including actress Sienna Miller4, who settled a phone hacking lawsuit5 against it in June. The court said police should disclose information relating to messages allegedly intercepted6 by private investigator7 Glenn Mulcaire and used in the News of the World and other newspapers.
WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange will make an appearance at the Splendour in the Grass music festival later this month. Assange, currently under house arrest in Britain, will address revellers via a pre-recorded video message at the festival north of Brisbane. He’ll discuss the WikiLeaks cable scandal including his arrest and what it means for young people in Australia and around the world.
And Aussie cinema-goers are forking out titanic8 prices with our flicks9 among the most expensive in the Western world. Consumer group Choice says it found that Australian cinema-goers pay far more than those in the US and New Zealand with a family of four shelling out around $67 for a trip to a multiplex. Getting lollies and drinks from the cinema snack bar will also set you back a fistful of dollars, but Choice says it’s unclear why multiplexes here charge such high rates.
