The music world is in shock with the news that British soul singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her north London home aged1 just 27.

The troubled singer had a long battle with alcohol and drugs which overshadowed her musical career. Winehouse won widespread acclaim2 at the age of 20 with her 2003 debut3 album “Frank”. Her 2006 album “Back to Black” made her a star around the world, winning five Grammy awards. Her cause of death is still unknown.
All musicians around the world have been paying tribute to Amy Winehouse on social media websites. Many have used Twitter to share their memories and their sadness for Amy. Fellow British singer song-writer Lily Allen has described Amy as a lost soul. American hip-hop star Big Boi from Outkast has compared Amy to many other similar musicians who also died at the age of 27. And US producer Moby has expressed regret, saying he wished he’d done something to help Amy Winehouse after her last disastrous4 show in Belgrade.
World jazz great Herbie Hancock has been appointed as a UNESCO Goodwill5 Ambassador. The 71-year-old muso’s role means he’ll travel the world, promoting the goals of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. He says his immediate6 priorities are to create an International Jazz Day as well as getting major music venues7 in New Orleans and Chicago World Heritage listed.
