 At least 20 properties are thought to be destroyed as 50 bushfires continue to burn right across Victoria. An emergency warning's been reissued for the Midland Road, fires in Melbourne's northern fringe. It's now spread across 40 kilometres taking in Kilmore, Kilmore east and Wallen. Authorities are also concerned this morning about a fire burning in open coal mine at Morwill in the state's east.

 

New allegations have kicked back ** emerged the federal cabinet finalized¹ its term of reference for a royal commission into union corruption². In the latest revelations, the ABC's been told the Queensland-backed Lack Group has paid bribes³ to a small group of Construction Union officials to help negotiate an enterprise bargaining agreement with the Union. 

 

The long-awaited trial of the man accused of murdering Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe begins in Brisbane today. The boy was 13 years old when he disappeared while waiting for a bus in December, 2003. Daniel's remains⁴ were found eight years later.

 

After nine years in a Bali prison, Shapelle Corby could be a free woman later today. Prison authorities are waiting for the paper work approving her parole to arrive from Jakarta.

 

And police are hunting this morning for a group of man believed to be involved in a gangrape in Sydney's west. Police say a 14-year-old girl was attacked by six men in a park Doonside around 11 o'clock on Saturday night.
