Leading our news this morning, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop1 has urged the world to do more to tackle terrorism during a UN Security Council Meeting in New York. Mr. Bishop shared the meeting which focused on dealing2 with the threat posed by Islamic state militants3 in Syria and Iraq.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has vowed5 to push ahead with reforms to financial advice laws after they were struck out by the Senate last night. Cross-bench senators Jackie Lamby and Ricky Muar reversed their earliest support and sighed with Labor6 and Greens to disallow7 the changes.
More storms have been forecast today as Southeast Queensland recovers from yesterday’s wild weather. Heavy downpours caused flash flooding, power cuts and commute8 chaos9 in Brisbane. More than 20,000 homes and businesses were blacked out, and emergency services received more than 2000 calls for help.
In the United States, at least five people have died after a huge storm dumped more than a meter of snow in parts of New York State. Temperatures across the country have prompted to freezing. Residents have been trapped in their homes and cars, and weather has forced many schools to close.
