 A fortnight after two people died in bushfire, South Australian crews are once again preparing for danger as a heat wave spreads across the southern states. Fire plans are in place in four Victorian districts in five parts of Australia and the danger is expected to increase on Saturday. A 17-year-old Adelaide building apprentice¹ is in a critical condition after collapse² in that heat. The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is expected to raise trade security and whaling issues when he meets the Japanese Prime Minister today. Mr. Turnbull arrives in Tokyo at about an hour’s time for busy one-day trip. Australian surfer Mick Fanning has won his first quarter-final of the pipeline³ masters in Hawaii a day after his old brother Peter died in his sleep. Fanning used social media to pay tribute to his brother. He said he pushed on with yesterday’s heat because that’s what Pete would want.

And prominent Queenslanders will join the Brisbane rally today against the downgrading of Gerard Baden-Clay’s murder conviction. Queenslanders’ quarter appeal has ruled there’s not enough evidence to prove Baden-Clay intentionally⁴ murdered his wife Allison. Bruce and / whose son Daniel was killed in 2003 say they are joining the rally because they feel the system has let Allison down. And the Russian President Vladimir Putin has used his annual media conference to take a swipe for Turkey and to declare disgraced FIFA boss Sepp Blatter deserves a Nobel peace prize. The Russian leader said he seized no prospect⁵ in improving relations with current leadership of Turkey after the downing of a Russian jet last month.
