There are many ways to make electricity.

发电有许多种方式。

But not all of those ways are good for the environment.

可是不是每一种方式都对环境有益。

Today, a lot of electricity is made by burning oil or coal.

今天，有许多电力都来自于燃烧石油或煤。

But that pollutes the environment.

可是这么做会污染环境。

Green energy is different. It comes from natural things like the sun.

绿色能源不一样。这种能源来自大自然当中的东西，例如太阳。

In fact, it's called green energy because it doesn't hurt the environment.

实际上，这种能源之所以叫做绿色能源，原因就是这种能源不会伤害环境。

There are many dfferent kinds of green energy.

绿色能源有许多不同种类。

Solar energy comes from the sun.

太阳能来自太阳。

Special cells¹ collect sunlight² and change it into electricity.

特殊的电池收集阳光，转变成电能。

Wind power comes directly³ from the wind.

风能直接来自于风力。

Another green energy comes from moving water.

另一种绿色能源则是来自于流动的水。

This is the most common kind of green energy.

这是最常见的绿色能源。

Around the world, this water power provides enough electricity for 28.3 million people.

在世界各地，水力产生的电能足够供应两千八百三十万人使用。

Green energy is not perfect.

绿色能源并不是完美的。

Sometimes there isn't enough sun or wind when we need electricity.

有时候，我们需要电力的时候却没有足够的阳光或风力。

Energy companies also need to spend a lot of money to produce green energy, too.

电力公司也必须花许多钱以生产绿色能源。

So while green energy is getting cheaper, it can still be very expensive.

尽管绿色能源的成本越来越低，造价却还是很昂贵。

As these problems are solved, green energy will give us a good way to make electricity but not pollution.

随着这些问题逐渐解决，绿色能源将可为我们提供一种能够发电但不会制造污染的好方法。
