Against the grimness of the Vesuvius

Flicker¹ the sunflowers flaming and fierce

Dazzling from the Apennines horizon

To the canvas Van Gogh used to brighten

For three days and three nights molten rocks flowed

Pompeii was caught 'n' completely swallowed

This Mediterranean² pearl of the past

Under the ashes was able to last

Roman history was a long, long river

Where some drops were sweet, but more were bitter

From bitterness grow the hillside olives

Gentle and firm, with peace as their motives³

衬托着亚平宁原野

梵高向日葵灼人的鲜艳。

三昼夜岩浆的肆虐

掩护了庞贝城

古代地中海夺目的璀璨。

罗马史长河里几多苦水

滋养了山脚下

淡雅、平和、不屈不挠的橄榄……
