1.The crew of the Maersk Alabama says the number of pirates off the coast of Somalia is rising to crisis proportions. Sunday the crew’s captain Richard Philips was rescued by Navy Seals. Three pirates were killed during the rescue, a fourth is now in custody¹.

2.The head of Thailand’s armed forces says order will be restored in Bangkok despite escalated² violence by anti-government protestors. The general said all means will be used to end the protest. At least 74 people have been injured in the violence.
