Russia diplomatic personnel vacated a Maryland Eastern Shore compound Friday just minutes ahead of a US deadline. The Obama administration ordered the compound closed in retaliation¹ for Moscow's cyber meddling² in the presidential election. 35 Russian diplomats³ have also been ordered out of the US.

The president-elect continues meetings in his home in Florida. Donald Trump⁴ met with several economic advisers⁵ at Mar-a-Lago on Friday. Trump will spend New Year's Eve in Florida with actor Sylvester Stallone and musician Quincy Jones.

And millions are digging out after a massive storm dumped up to two feet of snow in parts of New York, New Hampshire and Maine. The powerful northeaster brought hazardous⁶ driving conditions for many, and an early holiday on the ski slopes was stopped.

And in Times Square, one last practiced countdown before the real ball drop tomorrow night. Times Square will be filled with at least a million people who will usher⁷ in 2017 at midnight.
