A man who police say fatally stabbed two people who intervened as he yelled anti-Islamic slurs⁴ on a light-rail train in Portland, Oregon, has a criminal record, according to court records seen by the Associated Press. 35-year-old Jeremy Joseph Christian⁵ was convicted of robbery, kidnapping and a weapons charge in 2002.

Former President Jimmy Carter is remembering his national security advisor⁶ Zbigniew Brzezinski as a superb public servant and a man who was brilliant, dedicated⁷ and loyal. Brzezinski died Friday at the age of 89.
