Mourners streamed into a Detroit church to pay their respects to Aretha Franklin. The viewing Thusday was held at New Bethel Baptist church, where the Queen of Soul got her start as a gospel singer.

At least eight people were injured Thursday when an explosion caused a section of roof to collapse² at a Chicago water reclaimation plant. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

Instead of catching³ fish, rats and other life, it's becoming increasingly popular for scientists to look for tiny bits of DNA⁴ the ceratures left behind: hair, scales and feather, in an effort to protect biodiversity. The genetic⁵ material can be detected hours, weeks or millennia⁶ later.
