 　　So infuriated were the soldiers that, when the men returned to take up the dead, they prepared to fire again,   士兵们还是愤怒难抑，市民们返回欲想搬走尸体时候，他们再次准备开枪，

　　The bells rung in all the churches; the town drums beat. "To arms! to arms!" was the cry. 所有教堂的钟声訇然响成一片，波士顿全镇鼓声齐鸣，到处响起“武装起来，武装起来”的呼喊。

　　“Our hearts,” said Warren, beat to arms, almost resolved by one stroke to avenge³ the death of our slaughtered⁴ brethren; 第一道战鼓几乎刚刚响起，我们就决心拿起武器为被杀戮的兄弟报仇。

　　but they stood self-possessed, demanding justice according to the law.  但强烈要求诉诸法律，给予刽子手以正义审判。

　　"I did it," answered Preston, "to save my men."  “责任全在我，”普雷斯顿回答，“请饶恕我的士兵吧。”
