 During lunch the clouds started to advance,  在我们吃午饭的时候，

slinking across the blue sky, darting¹ in front of the sun momentarily, casting long shadows across the beach, and blackening the waves.  云层开始向前推移，偷偷地蚕食着蓝天，随时都有可能冲到太阳跟前，在海滩上留下长长的阴影，让海浪变得一片漆黑。

As they finished eating, people started to drift away in twos and threes.  他们吃完东西以后，开始三三两两地散开。

Some walked down to the edge of the waves, trying to skip rocks across the choppy surface.  有些走下海滩走到海浪的边缘，试着跃过波涛起伏的海面跳到岩礁上。

Others were gathering² a second expedition to the tide pools.  另一些人聚拢在一起，准备再来一次潮汐池远征。

Mike — with Jessica shadowing him — headed up to the one shop in the village.  迈克——杰西卡像影子一样跟着他——起身向村里的一个商店走去。
