For the second time in two weeks, House Representatives are at a loss for a speaker. Majority leader Kevin McCarthy dropped out of the race to succeed John Boehner just moments before house representatives were set to vote. Here's NPR's Susan Davis. Kevin McCarthy was about to clinch1 his party's nomination2 to the next speaker of the house. But the California republican stunned3 his colleagues when he announced he was dropping out of the race. McCarthy told republicans he did not believe he was the leader to unite them. HIs decision forced outgoing speaker John Boehner to immediately postpone4 the speaker election, leaving house republicans in disarray5. McCarthy was heavily favored against two of his opponents, congressman6 Jason Chaffetz of Utah and Daniel Webster of Florida. Both say they'll remain in the speaker's race. Boehner said he expected to hold another nominee7 election in the coming weeks. He had planned to resign at the end of the month but he says he'll remain in office until a new speaker can be elected.
