The Languages of Love
2
Love Language #3: Receiving Gifts
A gift is something you can hold in your hand—a visual symbol of love. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes and may be purchased, found or made. If a person’s love language is receiving gifts, you need to become a gift giver. Don’t wait for a special occasion1. Almost anything you give will be received as an expression of love.
Love Language #4: Acts of Service
Showing love to someone whose love language is “acts of service” means doing things you know that person would like you to do. You seek to please that person by serving them. For a married couple, this love language may involve actions like cooking a meal, washing dishes or watching the kids. Acts of service require thought, planning, time, effort and energy. If done with a positive spirit, they are indeed expressions of love.
Love Language #5: Physical Touch
Within a marriage or a family, physical touch is a powerful way to communicate love. For some individuals, physical touch is more important than hearing the words “I love you.” Without it, some feel unloved. Holding hands, embracing2, kissing, hugging and even giving a pat3 on the back are all ways of communicating love. Giving “love touches” to your spouse4, children or friends will speak volumes if their main love language is physical touch.
