Just a handful of nuts every day could help you live a longer and healthier life.
nuts
According to a study from the New England Journal of Medicine people who eat just 35 grams of nuts every day had a 20 percent less chance of dying over a 30-year period. The same group also had much lower rates of heart disease. In fact, there was a 29% reduction in deaths from heart disease for nut eaters. There was also an 11% decrease in the risk of cancer.
Some people may worry that eating nuts can lead to obesity1. But the study showed that nut eaters are actually significantly lighter2.
Moreover, the beneficial effects were the same for a wide variety of nuts. This includes both peanuts and tree nuts like walnuts3, pistachios, pine nuts and hazelnuts.
The researchers are still trying to understand the mechanism4 for their beneficial effects. They believe there are substances in nuts that help our metabolism5 in a positive way.
I think it may be a good time to start eating more nuts.
