Rachel Lee: The nation's manufacturers were busy in April. The Institute for Supply Management reports strong growth in the sector1 last month. George Nolen, President & CEO of Siemens USA says, that's in line with what his company is seeing and energy costs are the only weak point.
George Nolen : Those would be the more troubled spots, but all other indicators2 say that everything is pushing through and we continue to show re-growth.
Rachel Lee : Meantime, American consumers spent more freely in March and their incomes grew with the fastest pace since September.

Rachel Lee: The health of Social Security and Medicare have taken a turn for the worse. Treasury3 Secretary John Snow:
John Snow: What I report demonstrates to something we've known for a long time. The social security problem remains4 with us. The system is seriously under-funded and it's not financially sustainable.
Rachel Lee: An annual report shows Medicare will go bust5 in 12 years, Social Security will run out of money by 2040. Once the trust funds are exhausted6, that means beneficiaries will get only a percentage of the benefits they were promised.

Rachel Lee : The average cost of gasoline slipped by a penny over the weekend to 2 dollars and 92 cents a gallon. But analysts7 say that trend will not continue.
