 　　"This is our plan: We'll come once in a while, as in the past, to pay a visit to this henhouse, and we'll take away eight chickens.

　　“这就是我们的计划：我们照旧过一段时间来鸡舍一次，拿走八只鸡。

　　Of these, seven are for us, and one for you, provided¹, of course, that you will make believe you are sleeping and will not bark for the Farmer."

　　八只鸡当中，我们拿七只，—只给你。前提是，你假装睡着，千万别出来叫醒农民。”

　　"Did Melampo really do that?" asked Pinocchio.

　　“梅兰珀真的是这么干的吗？”皮诺乔问。

　　"Indeed he did, and because of that we were the best of friends.

　　“它确实就是这么干的，为此我们成了最好的朋友。

　　Sleep away peacefully, and remember that before we go we shall leave you a nice fat chicken all ready for your breakfast in the morning. Is that understood?"

　　你安静地睡你的觉吧，我们走以前，保证给你留下一只上好的肥鸡做早饭。你明白了么？”

　　"Even too well," answered Pinocchio. And shaking his head in a threatening manner, he seemed to say, "We'll talk this over in a few minutes, my friends."

　　“简直太好了，”皮诺乔答道。同时他恫吓似地晃晃头，好像想说：“咱们过会儿再讨论吧，我的朋友们。”

　　As soon as the four Weasels had talked things over, they went straight to the chicken coop which stood close to the doghouse.

　　四只黄鼠狼一谈妥，就直接溜进了狗屋旁边的鸡舍里。

　　Digging² busily with teeth and claws³, they opened the little door and slipped⁴ in.

　　它们忙着用牙和爪子弄开了小门，溜了进去。

　　But they were no sooner in than they heard the door close with a sharp bang⁵.

　　可当它们刚一进去，就听见小门砰的大声关上了。

　　The one who had done the trick was Pinocchio, who, not satisfied⁶ with that, dragged a heavy stone in front of it.

　　设下陷阱的正是皮诺乔。他对此还不满意，接着在门前放了块大石头。

　　That done, he started to bark. And he barked as if he were a real watchdog: "Bow, wow, wow! Bow, wow!"

　　做完这些后，他叫了起来，叫得就像一只真正的看门狗：“汪，汪，汪，汪。”

　　The Farmer heard the loud barks and jumped out of bed. Taking his gun, he leaped to the window and shouted: "What's the matter?"

　　农民一听见大叫声，立马跳下床，拿起枪，迅速跃至窗边喊道：“什么事？”

　　"The thieves are here," answered Pinocchio. "Where are they?"

　　“小偷在这儿，”皮诺乔回答到。 “它们在哪儿？”

　　"In the chicken coop." "I'll come down in a second."

　　“在鸡舍里。” “我马上下来。”
