 “We did get something a gift after the election”

September 23rd, 1952Future President Richard Nixon uses what’s then the new medium of television to make his case. Nixon at the time the Republican¹ candidate for vice² president denies charges that use a secret campaign fund for his personal expenses. Instead Nixon says the only gift he’d accepted was the family dog, whom his daughters named checkers.

“You know the kids like all kids love the dog. I just want to say this right now, that regardless of what they say about it. We gonna keep it.”
