"We the jury in the above entitled action find the defendant¹, Orenthal James Simpson, not guilty of the crime of murder." Simpson is found not guilty of killing² his ex-wife Nicole and Ronald Goldman. Two years later, a civil trial finds Simpson liable for the slayings, ordering him to pay millions of dollars to the victims' families.

1226Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder³ of the Franciscan Order, dies. Known for his devotion to the poor, he is made a Catholic saint two years later.
