 April 3rd, 1968 - In Memphis, Tennessee, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. gives this speech on the night before his assassination¹: “We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now. Because I have been to the mountaintop.”

1936 - Bruno Richard Hauptmann is electrocuted in Trenton, New Jersey², for the kidnap and murder of aviator³ Charles Lindbergh’s infant son.

1948 - President Harry⁴ Truman signs the Marshall Plan. The eight-package helps Europe allies rebuild after World War II and resist Communism.

1882 - Jesse James, the notorious Wild West outlaw⁵ is shot to death in St. Joseph, Missouri. Robert Ford⁶, a member of the James gang pulls the trigger. James’s brother Frank surrenders a month later.

1860 - Another iconic chapter from America’s Wild West years. The legendary⁷ Pony⁸ Express begins service between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California.
