 January 5th 2000, the US government decides six-year-old Elian Gonzalez should be returned to his father in Cuba. That move touches off angry protestors by Cuban Americans in Miami, home of Elian’s US relatives. After a legal battle, the government seizes Elian from those relatives month later and the boy returns to Cuba.

1925, Nellie T. Ross succeeds her late husband as governor of Wyoming, becoming the first female governor in American history.
