The top U.S. military officer retired¹ Friday, and was replaced for the first time by a general from the Marine² Corps³.

On a parade ground at a U.S. military base near Washington, Air Force General Richard Myers ended his four years as Chairman of the Joint⁴ Chiefs of Staff, and retired after just over 40 years in the military.
