散文：If I can stop one Heart from breaking

If I can stop one Heart from breaking

I shall not live in vain

If I can ease one Life the Aching

Or cool one Pain

 

Or help one fainting Robin¹

Unto his Nest again

I shall not live in Vain.

 

This beautiful poem expresses the wish of the human heart to make a difference to others, to help those in pain and need. If we could do just one thoughtful thing for someone or something, then our lives have meaning.

 

如果我能让一颗心免于破碎，

我就没有白活；  

如果我能为一个痛苦的生命带去抚慰，

减轻他的伤痛，

或让一只弱小的知更鸟 

回到自己的鸟巢， 

我就没有白活。
