Roof tile with image of an intimidating1 face intended to scare evil spirits from a house. The tile is from Kyongju, the ancient capital of Korea. Similar tiles were used earlier in China, but once introduced into the Korean peninsula, they reached a new height in popularity and artistry. Neil McGregor, Director of the British Museum, looks at what was happening in Korea, as it became a newly unified2 kingdom under the Silla state.
