就这样，船夫欺骗了不知多少人。镇上已经人人皆知船夫是个骗子，就再也不会去坐他的船。这让船夫十分苦恼。
然而，一次偶然的机遇让他改头换面，重新做人。
一天清晨，他看到一只他未曾注意过的小船。船上躺着一位老船夫，他正笑眯眯地拍着口袋里的钱。船夫想：他的生意肯定很好，我去问问他怎么让生意兴隆的。于是船夫走到老船夫的小船上，问他：“为什么你的生意那么好，而我的却很差呢?”老船夫笑着说：“小伙子，镇上到处都在说你的不是呢，我也很了解你。你知道为什么会没有人来坐你的船吗?”船夫摇摇头。老船夫站起身，边绕着他走，边语重心长地说：“因为人人都认为你是骗子，因为你把最重要的诚信丢掉了。诚信是一项宝贵的财宝，也是不可少的通行证。你抛弃了它，就等于抛弃了生活，你的存在也就没有什么意义了。”老船夫咽了一口唾沫，说：“小伙子，回头是岸。你还是找回诚信，继续过快乐的日子吧！”老船夫说完，拍拍船夫的肩膀，从他身旁走了过去。船夫听得入了神，当他反应过来时，老船夫已经消失得无影无踪了。他走到自己的小船上，慢慢地坐下来，想：这位老船夫说得多好，我丢掉了“通行证”，当然不能做生意了，我一定要让自己的存在变得有意义！
