About 42,000 gallons of oil a day are leaking from the blown-out well, where an oil rig exploded and sank last week.

2. In a two-day economic tour of the Midwest, President Barack Obama is touting renewable energy and tighter Wall Street regulations. Meantime, back in Washington, Senate Democratic leaders failed for the third time in three days to get the needed votes to move ahead a banking regulation bill.

3. A war memorial cross can stay atop remote area on federal land in California. The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a lower court went too far in ordering the cross's removal.

4. A 13-year-old from California is making his way up Mount Everest in an attempt to become the youngest person to scale the world's highest mountain. Jordan Romero tells the AP he's having a great time and so far everything's going smooth.
