1. A top BP executive says crews trying to plug a massive Gulf oil leak are pumping mud into a blown-out well as effectively as they've hoped. BP says it will know within the next 24 hours whether the procedure known as "top kill" has been successful. Top kill has never been tried a mile beneath the sea. 2. The House is expected to vote today on a proposal that would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and let gays serve openly in the military. The legislation would give the military as much time as it wants before lifting the ban. The Senate Armed Services Committee is expected to take up the measure today. 3. A 19-year-old woman has requested a temporary restraining order against the man who once falsely claimed to have murdered JonBenet Ramsey. Samantha Spiege claimed John Mark Karr sent her threatening emails and instant messages. So far, the court has been unable to serve Karr. 4. Amnesty International is criticizing the US, Russia and China for ignoring human rights violations by allies and for failing to open their own records. The group specifically criticizes President Barack Obama for failing to make good on his promise to close the US prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. |
