[02:14.48]In 1924,Mallory and team of British climbers
[02:22.34]tried to get to the top of Mount Qomolangma,
[02:29.00]the tallest mountain in the world.
[03:05.26]No one had ever done it before.
[03:25.61]Mallory had already tried to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma in 1922and 1922,
[03:39.48]but he had failed both times.
[04:30.84]In 1924,he tried again.
[04:43.22]On June8,1924,he and another climber,Andrew Irvine,
[04:53.85]were only a few hundred metres from the top of the mountain.
[06:18.59]However,the weather was very misty,
[06:24.34]and soon the two men disappeared into the mist.
[06:49.00]They could never return.
[06:58.35]In1953,Edmund Hillary from New Zealand,
[07:05.51]and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal, finally reached the top of Mount Qomolangma.
[07:38.79]Most people thought that they were the first men to do this,
[07:44.85]but some people wondered whether Mallory and Irvine had got there first.
[08:29.70]Many years later,in 1999,Mallory's body was found on Mount Qomolangma,
[08:39.84]about six hundred metres from the top of it.
[09:17.51]However,it is still not known whether he
[09:23.75]and Irvine ever reached the top of the mountain.
[11:57.32]Someone had once asked Mallory
[12:01.40]why he wanted to climb the most dangerous mountain in world |
