Why were the safety recommendations of your own engineers ignored?
I wasn’t involved in any of the decision-making. It’s clear that there were some discussion amongst the engineering team and that an engineering judgment was taken.
It’s clear to me that you don’t want to answer our questions because isn’t it true that you’ve served your life in BP and only recently become the CEO. But haven’t you been in this business most of your professional life?
I’ve been in this business 28 years.
Twenty-eight years. So you should have some knowledge about these issues.
Israel has announced this Thursday that it will ease its three-year blockade on Gaza. But details are fairly scarce. So it could be a case of wait-and-see whether or not it will make an impact on the one and half million Gazans. They are actually wanting this blockade to be lifted. From the Palestinian point of view, this is not enough. Unsurprisingly, Hamas in Gaza says that they reject this move by the Israeli authorities. They say they want a complete lifting of the blockade.
The waters have largely subsided now. However, the evidence of the falls with which they came to this town and others across the region if not everywhere, it is very prevalent.
We’ve been told by people on this street that the flood waters were well above my head. Hundreds of cars just in the location behind us from here. They started piling them up over a massive area. It’s already five or six vehicles deep. They are not crushing them. They are just simply piling them up. That’s just on the street. People’s lives, people’s homes, that’s going to take even longer because that so many people have lost absolutely everything.
