1. Hurricane Alex continues to churn through the western Gulf with its aim on the Mexico-Texas border. The storm has sustained winds of 80 miles per hour. Forecasters expect it to make landfall tonight. It is the first Atlantic hurricane in June since 1995.

 

2. Today is expected to be the final day of questioning for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. During the hearings Tuesday, Kagan displayed a cool demeanor and a sense of humor. Republicans who oppose her nomination will need to resort to a filibuster to block a confirmation vote.

 

3. Police outside Boston are expected to release results today of an independent review of last year's arrest of a black Harvard scholar by a white sergeant. James Crowley arrested Henry Louis Gates on a disorderly conduct charge at his home while investigating a possible burglary. The incident sparked a nationwide debate on race relations, even forcing President Obama to meet with both men at the White House.

 

4. Larry King is hanging up his suspenders. The CNN host announced yesterday that he will be retiring after 25 years with the network. King says his last broadcast will be sometime this fall
