1. Crews have stopped drilling the relief well that's intended to permanently plug BP's broken Gulf oil well. That because a strengthening tropical depression is bearing down on the site. Crews have about 15 feet left to drill, but officials say the final few steps will have to wait at least two or three days until the bad weather passes.
2. Four plane crash survivors are being treated at an Anchorage hospital after their plane crashed into a remote mountainside Monday. The crash killed five others, including former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.
3. Former Wrestling Executive Linda McMahon has won the Republican endorsement for Connecticut US Senate seat. McMahon spent more than 20 million dollars of her own money. She will face off against Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in November.
4. More than a thousand people remain missing, but hope is fading of finding more survivors in flooding and landslides that hit northwestern China. Entire communities were swallowed up when a debris-choked river jumped its bank Sunday. More than 700 people are known dead. |
