2. Pope Benedict is once again apologizing for the clerical sex abuse scandal that has rocked the church. He told a Mass in London today that the situation is shameful and humiliating. Despite that, thousands still protested his visit.

3. Afghans lined up to vote today in a parliamentary election that is testing the country's commitment to democracy. At least 15 people have been killed as the Taliban carried out threats to attack. There've also been some claims of fraud.

4. Germany's famed Oktoberfest has got underway in Munich, however, those looking to enjoy a cigarette with their beer were out of luck. For the first time ever, this has become a smoke-free event.
