The island picnic
Every Saturday Sally goes to see her father.
One Saturday Sally said, "Can we go out in a boat today?"
"Yes, let's do that," said Dad, "Come on, Red Boy. You can come too."
Dad, Sally, and Red Boy went up the river in a boat.
They came to an island. "This is a good place for a picnic," said Sally. They got out, and Dad tied the boat to a tree.
"I'm hungry," said Sally. They opened the basket and got out some sandwiches and some apples.
"Did you bring something for Red Boy?" said Sally. "He can have a sandwich," said Dad.
Then Dad looked around. "Where's the boat?" he shouted, "Look-there it is!" said Sally. "It's going down the river."
"Oh no! Said Dad. "I didn't tie a good knot[n?t] !" Then they saw an orange boat coming down the river.
Sally and Dad waved and shouted, and Red Boy barked and barked. The orange boat came to the island to get them.
They all climbed in, and went down the river to get their runaway boat. "Thanks," said Dad.
On the way home they saw a blue and white towel in a store window. "Let's buy it," said Dad. "Look at that knot, Sally, It will show me the right way to tie up a boat."
"Next time we get a boat we will tie it up with a good knot," said Sally. |
