[00:06.02]1.2 Jefferson Magazine
[00:10.46]Continuing our series Hamilton:
[00:13.37]Past and Present,
[00:14.94]this week we interview Sam Jones,
[00:17.98]lifelong resident of Hamilton
[00:20.56]and school janitor at Jefferson Junior High
[00:23.95]for more than thirty years.
[00:26.38]Mr Jones ,tell us about how Hamilton
[00:30.10]was many years ago.
[00:32.07]Well,when I was young, the city was quite small
[00:36.20]but now it is very large.
[00:38.69]What about the downtown area?
[00:40.91]Well,there were the old buildings,of course-
[00:44.42]the church,the museum,and the town hall-
[00:47.95]that are still there today.
[00:49.68]But there weren't any tall office buildings
[00:52.24]like now.
[00:53.86]Were there many cars?
[00:55.49]Well,there were some but not like now.
[00:59.14]There weren't any traffic problems in the past.
[01:02.10]And no pollution?
[01:03.61]That's right.
[01:04.76]There wasn't any pollution.
[01:06.97]The city was clean and quiet.
[01:09.64]Now there is a lot of noise-too much noise.
[01:13.99]Was there any graffiti around the town?
[01:16.49]No,not at all.
[01:18.87]Now there is graffiti everywhere,
[01:21.47]even here in the school sometimes!
[01:24.54]Today,Hamilton is a popular place for tourists.
[01:28.50]Was it always like that?
[01:30.41]No,it wasn't.
[01:32.14]When I was a boy,
[01:33.51]there weren't any tourists.
[01:35.31]I guess there wasn't so much to see
[01:37.41]in Hamilton back then!
