[00:00.00]UNIT 12 Lesson 47
[00:06.25]1.1 March 10th - The Great Wall
[00:11.34]Lisa and I left Beijing at about nine o'clock
[00:14.94]and drove to the Great Wall at a place
[00:17.65]called Badaling.
[00:19.50]This is the part of the wall
[00:21.47]that receives the most visitors
[00:23.67]and there were many people there
[00:26.11]that day.
[00:27.65]It was quite cold up on the wall
[00:30.18]and it was very windy.
[00:32.38]I bought a hat to keep my ears warm.
[00:35.51]I also bought some postcards.
[00:38.15]Lisa bought a beautiful book
[00:40.09]about the history of the wall.
[00:42.44]We walked on the wall for about four hours.
[00:46.48]Then we were hungry,
[00:48.19]so we ate at a restaurant near the exit.
[00:51.54]Then we drove back to the capital.
[00:54.04]It was a fantastic trip!
[00:57.77]The Great Wall follows the shape of the land
[01:00.72]and so it goes up and down a lot.
[01:04.37]So it's hard work for walking.
[01:06.94]It'a amazing how long the wall is!
[01:10.09]In this photo you can see how the wall
[01:13.10]disappears far into the distance.
[01:16.13]There are watchtowers along the wall.
[01:18.89]In some places, you can climb up to the roof.
[01:22.83]From the top you get a great view of the wall.
