[00:01.10]Unit 1 Learning to Learn
[00:05.15]Lesson 1
[00:09.59]Exercise 1.2
[00:13.59]Hi,I'm a Junior high school student.
[00:17.13]I had a wonderful summer vacation,
[00:20.07]but I found I forgot a lot of my English
[00:23.61]after the vacation.
[00:25.48]And I always have a hard time
[00:27.79]remembering English words.
[00:30.36]This makes me upset,
[00:32.45]My question is: is there anything I can do
[00:35.85]to improve my memory and be a better learner?
[00:43.98]Exercise 1.3
[00:47.04]Yes ,there are a number of ways
[00:49.53]to help improve your memory,
[00:51.55]so you shouldn't feel upset.
[00:53.65]My first advice is that
[00:55.37]if you want to remember something well,
[00:57.97]you have to review it regularly.
[01:00.71]You might want to go over the material
[01:02.50]two days after you learn it ,
[01:05.07]then a week later,then two weeks later,
[01:08.80]and then a month later,
[01:11.38]After a month you will find that
[01:14.15]you can easily remember the material.
[01:16.29]My second advice is to use a colored pen
[01:19.86]to highlight the important parts on your book,
[01:22.89]This will help you in two ways,
[01:24.98]First,it will help you concentrate on
[01:27.85]the most important parts
[01:29.50]when you learn the knowledge,
[01:30.93]It is always easier to remember
[01:32.59]only the key points
[01:34.29]Second,this will make reviewing easier,
[01:37.58]When you open your book ,
[01:39.19]the colored parts will show you
[01:41.20]the most important things immediately.
[01:43.54]In this way,
[01:44.28]you don't have to go over all the material again
[01:47.58]Another piece of advice is to go over
[01:49.65]all the information in your mind
[01:51.49]right before you go to sleep.
[01:53.72]Your brain is working while you are sleeping.
[01:56.57]If you think about the information
[01:58.26]before you go to sleep,
[02:00.30]you might be able to remember it better.
[02:03.03]Another good time for memorizing information
[02:05.36]is in the morning
[02:06.84]because you have just rested
[02:08.66]and your brain is fresh and clear,
[02:10.98]So you might also try to memorize the important
[02:13.20]information in the morning.
[02:15.58]Before you use these ideas,
[02:17.89]you should know that to memorize something well
[02:20.76]you must understand it,
[02:22.49]Make sure you know about the material
[02:24.60]and don't just recite it.
[02:30.76]Exercise 2.2
[02:33.94]According to scientists,
[02:35.80]there are different ways
[02:37.01]to remember different things,
[02:38.96]If you want to remember a list of words,
[02:41.35]you might organize the words
[02:43.02]in a sentence or a story,
[02:45.35]For example. If you want to remember vocabulary
[02:49.26]"regularly.confident,advice,upset ,
[02:54.73]review and memory",
[02:57.43]you can put them in a sentence like"
[02:59.94]If you feel upset about your memory,
[03:02.65]my advice is be confident
[03:04.89]and review the things regularly."
[03:07.65]Organizing things is a lot of fun.
[03:10.72]If you want to memorize a paragraph,
[03:14.11]you might probably need to concentrate
[03:16.49]on the key points,
[03:18.51]You should understand the paragraph First
[03:21.14]and then look at the organization
[03:23.30]of the paragraph.
[03:25.17]In general,
[03:25.93]a paragraph will have a topic sentence,
[03:29.13]From this sentence
[03:30.19]you will know the main idea.
[03:32.67]And then you need to find out the details and
[03:35.06]how they support the main idea.
[03:37.95]Different people have different ways
[03:39.89]in memorizing.
[03:41.41]No people can say which way is better.
