The swollen Mississippi River is giving residents of at least one Louisiana town something ever reprieved. Evacuations that were supposed to become mandatory in Butte La Rose today had been put on hold. Most have already left, but officials there now say the Mississippi River might not get as high as feared; they put evacuations off for a couple of days. Other towns are bracing for flooding. Carl Kraemer, the emergency management director of Morgan City, is hopping for the best.
