Rio Tinto has declined to comment on / allegations that it has been spying in China for the past six years. China’s state security watchdog has accused Stern Hu and his colleagues of spying there for the past six years and extorting Chinese steel companies out of 122 billion dollars.

 The Federal Opposition will today reveal its alternative to the government’s emissions trading plan, which looks set for defeat in the Senate this week. But the Opposition Leader has other things on his mind. Malcolm Turnbull will have to face his party room critics tomorrow in the wake of more disappointing poll results. His personal satisfaction rating has fallen to just 26% in the latest Newspoll.

 In Iraq, an Australian and a British security guard are dead after an apparent argument in Baghdad’s Green Zone. Thirty-seven-year-old Queensland Darren Hoare and Briton Paul McGuigan were shot. Iraqi authorities have charged a British co-worker with their deaths.

 And Typhoon Morakot has hit China’s southeast, causing severe flooding and wide-spread damage. At least one person was killed in the typhoon struck Fujian province with winds about to 120 (here the newsreader says: a hundred and twenty，No typhoon can reach 220km/h, it's not Formula One) km/h. Almost a million people have to be evacuated from the region.
