Prosecutors have charged Michael Jackson's doctor with involuntary manslaughter. Michael Jackson's family arrived at the LA court to see Conrad Murray charged over the singer's death. Dr. Murray is accused of acting without caution when he administered a powerful sedative to help Jackson sleep. He could spend up to four years in jail if he's found guilty.
The Federal Government says the Opposition must immediately outline how it could fund six months’ paid leave for new parents. The Opposition says it's developing a policy based around six months’ leave, but it hasn't released any costings. The government's scheme of 18 weeks’ leave paid at the federal minimum wage will begin next year.
A clean-up is under way after a large petrol leak at the Mobil fuel refinery at Altona in Melbourne's west. The 3.5-million-litre tank started to leak just before midnight. Firefighters have doused the spill with foam to stop it from igniting. Engineers are also draining the remaining fuel from the tank.
And Kevin Rudd says he'd like to see the legal drinking age lifted to 21. He's been grilled by 200 high school students at a forum on the ABC's Q&A program. He says he's in favor of any measure that could reduce binge drinking.
