 After days of steadily rising, Rockhampton's floodwaters should finally peak today. The Fitzroy River is expected to reach 9.4 metres, putting other 400 homes under threat. More than 500 people have already evacuated their homes. And St George in the state's southeast is preparing for what could be its worst-ever flood. Waters there could exceed 14 metres by next week. 

 
One of Pakistan's key politicians has been gunned down by his own bodyguard. The governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, was shot dead in broad daylight at an exclusive shopping area. His assassination further deepens Pakistan's political crisis. The government risked falling apart after the second largest party walked out of the coalition.
 
Western Australia's Opposition is in turmoil this morning. Labor leader Eric Ripper is facing a leadership challenge. The Member for the Pilbara, Tom Stephens, wants to overthrow him. Mr Ripper has hit back, calling him incompetent and ineffective.
 
British police are on the hunt for the people who attacked Prince Charles's car during last month's violent student protest. They've released footage of some of the people they believe were involved. Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, were travelling in their car when it was attacked by protesters.
 
And building workers have made a grisly discovery at a psychiatric hospital in Austria. They have uncovered the remains of 220 people in an old hospital cemetery. Authorities believe that they could be the victims of a Nazi euthanasia programme.
