1. The NCAA says it won't decide yet if it will take any action against Penn State University. It's waiting for the results of a criminal investigation of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, who was accused of sexually abusing boys. Charges are pending against two school officials for failing to report to authorities an alleged incident involving Sandusky in 2002. 2. Senior banker Lucas Papademos is Greece's new prime minister. His task is to lead the country out of its deep financial crisis. Italy is also forming an interim government.
3. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told the air force secretary to reconsider disciplinary action against three military mortuary supervisors. The three were disciplined, but not fired after an investigation confirmed that the remains of US service members were not properly handled.
4. Texas Governor Rick Perry is pledging to stay in the presidential race. Perry stumbled in Wednesday night's Republican debate, forgetting one of three federal agencies he says he wants to abolish. |
