[00:29.93]largely due to the fact that we all have to
[00:34.50]play sports throughout our school lives.
[00:38.47]So for years we play indoor and outdoor sports indoors.

[00:48.79]the gymnasium,on the mats,the bars,the ropes,the horse,and so on;
[00:55.27]and outdoor team games according to the tradition of your school and

[01:13.76]boys play cricket and tennis,girls play rounders and tennis.

[01:23.87]There are lots of more individual sports which
[01:28.23]people may begin at school or later in life,such as
[01:33.20]badminton,squash,sailing,horse-riding,
[01:38.45]target shooting with rifle or pistol,skiing swimming,and so on.
[01:44.93]Even fishing,which you may think of more as a hobby than a sport and yet
[01:50.88]and yet it is so popular and there areso many people
[01:55.35]who go fishing and so of course there're a lot of competitions and that
[02:01.10]perhaps entitles it to be called a sport.
[02:05.67]Apart from all the sports in which people participate,
[02:10.84]there are of course the spectator sports.
[02:14.97]Horse racing and motor racing are obvious examples of sports
[02:20.53]which only professionals can participate in.
[02:24.89]Football is still the greatest draw,however,and,
[02:29.47]of course,British football fans're well-known for their disorderly behaviour at
[02:35.63]home and abroad
[02:39.00]no one seems to know exactly why British football fans are so rough and violent
[02:45.66]but there is no doubt that they are!
[02:49.74]Spectator sports have been much affected by the
[02:54.39]increasing amount of TV coverage given to sports
[02:59.43]and the steady improvement in the quality of the filming and reporting.
[03:05.49]The whole of Saturday afternoon is devoted entirely to sport on both TV and radio
[03:12.85]and there are periods of the year when there are
[03:16.90]several major sporting events on simultaneously,which means that
[03:23.38]the media are almost entirely dominated by sports programmes. |
