MADRID, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona announced an agreement Friday to extend the contract for young full back Martin Montoya until the end of June 2014. Montoya, who has made a handful of appearances for the Barcelona first team and who was even called into the full Spain national team squad by Vicente del Bosque at the start of this season, has agreed to extend his stay at the club for a further two years.
The agreement sees his buyout clause raised to 12 million euros for the rest of this season and up to 20 million euros for the next two years.
A regular with the Spain U-21 side, Montoya is the latest of the current group of Barcelona youngsters to extend their contracts and follows others such as Rafinha Alcantara, Jonathan Dos Santos and Marc Bartra, who have all signed contract extensions in the past two months.
Montoya's best moment for Barcelona so far came when he scored in the 4-0 Champions League win over BATE Borisov at the start of this month. With Carles Puyol near the end of his career, Montoya is a major part of Pep Guardiola's plans for the future. |
