1. The Senate has rebuffed efforts to move ahead on a bill to repeal tax breaks for oil companies. A vote to proceed failed to get the necessary two-thirds majority. President Barack Obama had pleaded for Congress to end subsidies. 2. Police in Florida have released surveillance video of George Zimmerman. It was taken soon after he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The teen's family says nowhere in the video do they see the injuries Zimmerman claims he suffered before the shooting.
3. Syrian President Bashar Assard says he will spare no effort to make the mission of UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan a success. But he's demanding that armed opponents stop the violence against his regime. Annan is trying to broker a solution to the crisis, which the UN says has killed more than 9,000 people.
4. The Mega Millions jackpot is now the largest in US lottery history. It's topped 500 million dollars. |
