BERLIN, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Front-runner Bayern Munich humiliated helpless Schalke 4-0 to extend their gap atop the standings to 15 points as Hamburg trashed Dortmund 4-1 in a high paced encounter at the 21st round of Bundesliga on Saturday. Bayern Munich benefited on Dortmund' s surprising 4-1 slip to Hamburg to establish a 15 point gap. The "Bavarians" dominated the "Royal Blues" in every department from the kick off. Bayern' s Mario Gomez, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben approached Schalke's goal dangerously by then goalkeeper Timo Hildebrandt disarmed all efforts with his saves.
With 19 minutes into the match Bayern opened the scoring through David Alaba who converted a penalty following a foul play by Marco Hoeger who brought down Ribery inside the box.

Nevertheless, the visitors remained unfazed as Rudnevs made it 3-1 on the scoreboard to seal his brace, after he nodded home a cross by Rafael van der Vaart at the 62nd minute.
The hosts kept it bowling but all their efforts remained unrewarded as Hamburg' s Heung Min Son tapped in an assist by Marcell Jansen to mark the final 4-1 score.
Hamburg jump from 9th to 5th position with 31 points whilst Dortmund stay on 2nd position with 39 points.
Leverkusen failed to take over second position as they shared points with Monchengladbach after a 3-3 draw in a see-saw match.
Efficient Monchengladbach grabbed the lead twice thanks to the goals by Martin Stranzel and Luuk de Jong but yet wasteful Leverkusen came back through Sidney Sam and Stefan Kieling. The "Werkself" grabbed the lead for the first time in the 64th minute owing to the goal by Andre Schuerrle until Patrick Herrmann ensured parity in the dying minute of the game.
Both sides remain on their positions, Leverkusen on 3rd with 38 points and Monchengladbach on 7th with 30 points.
Bremen ensured their second win in row when they swept 4-1 over struggling Stuttgart that suffered their fifth straight loss. Bremen stays on 11th position with 28 points whereas Stuttgart slump to 14th position with 25 points.
Elsewhere, Hoffenheim lost 1-0 to Hannover, Wolfsburg defeated bottom team Greuther Fuerth 1-0 and Frankfurt were held to a goalless draw with Nuremberg. |
